Starting January 8, 2025, all Canadian citizens require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to or through the United Kingdom.
All travellers must apply online at least three days before departure. The application costs £10 GBP per person. Once approved, the eTA is valid for two years or earlier if your passport is renewed.
How to apply
1. Download this link for UK ETA app.
2. Take or upload a photo of the passport you will use to travel to the UK.
3. Scan your face with your device, if it has a camera. Children aged 9 and under will not be asked to scan their face.
4. Take or upload a photo of yourself.
5. Answer some questions about yourself.
6. Pay for your application.
Before you apply
You must complete your application in one go, you cannot save progress. If you do nothing for 20 minutes, the service will time out, answers will be deleted and must start again. Group application is not permitted, each person must apply separately.
Note: A similar program will be launched for travellers to Europe. However the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is delayed. It was postponed until mid-2025.
